Friends of Bristol Free School

Welcome to our information page - the Friends of BFS is a group of active parents and teachers who support social and school events, to enhance the learning environment.

Aims of the FoBFS
  • To support the ethos and aims of the Bristol Free School vision through building close links with the wider local community;
  • To promote inclusion through enabling interested groups or individuals to contribute to the school community;
  • To raise funds through a variety of events which both support school events and stand alone; and,
  • To provide resources that enhance the life of the students through liaising with the student council or the school management to identify added-value projects that cannot be funded in other ways.

Since forming in April 2012, the FoBFS have been active at all school events throughout the year, raising over £6000.

This year we say farewell to Richard Deverson our Chair and Rebecca Townsend our Secretary who have stepped down after being involved with FoBFS since the beginning. We would like to thank them both for everything they have done to help the Committee become so successful. New committee members have joined but there is always room for more. Anybody interested in joining us can come along at 8pm on the 15 March, 2017 at the Eastfield Pub, Henleaze. There is a lot of exciting events in the next few months please check out the programme and come along and support us.

This year FoBFS has purchased a pool table for the Sixth Form, and following a round of bidding fining has been agreed to support the following projects:

  • Engineering tools and monies towards a 3D printer for the Engineering Club.
  • Monies towards a Vibraphone for the Jazz Band.
  • Duke of Edinburgh Award
  • Girls’ sports kit.
  • First Aid training for students who are carers at home.
  • Rugby shirts for K4/5.
  • Bench for Outdoor Club.
  • Entering school in Enterprise Scheme.
  • Pool table for the 6th Form.

Projects funded in previous years:

  • Shaun the Sheep - participation in the citywide art event
  • Equipment for Makers Club
  • Outdoor Table Tennis Table 
  • New Sports Kit
  • Set up of Gardening Club

  • Pastoral Care Community Engagement Project

All bids for funding from the staff and student council are considered by the FoBFS committee and decided by the majority vote.
