6th Form Curriculum Guide - Year 12 Physical Education
Terms 1-3: Anatomy and PhysioloThe cardiovascular system 
Students will learn about how the cardiovascular (heart and blood) and respiratory (lungs) systems work together and how changes within these systems prior to exercise, during exercise of differing intensities and during recovery, allow the body to meet the demands of exercise.

Terms 1-3: Skill acquisitionSkill characteristics and their impact on transfer and practice 
Students will gain insight into the characteristics of skilled performance including help identifying the different types of skill. They will explore at how skills performance can be refined via practice.

Terms 1-3: Sport and societyEmergence of the globalisation of sport in the twenty first century
Students will learn about sporting recreation in the pre-industrial society compared to post-industrial society. Students will study the impact on sport of various socio-cultural factors such as urbanisation, transport and communication. They will learn about the impact of sport on post World War II society through to the present day, particularly in relation to association football, tennis and athletics

Terms 4-6: Anatomy and PhysioloDiet and nutrition and physical training
Students will learn about the seven classes of food that should be present in all sports performers' diets and also explore positive and negative effects of supplements. Students will then study the principles of training, periodisation and training methods.

Terms 4-6: Skill acquisitionPsychological influences on the individual and team 
Students will explore the psychological theories and concepts that help to explain the topics of personality, attitudes and arousal levels and how these impact on performance. They will discuss strategies that can be used to overcome the negative effects.

Terms 4-6: Sport and societyThe impact of sport on society and of society on sport 
Students will study a number of key terms in sport and their impact on equal opportunities in sport and society. Students will learn about the barriers to participation in sport and physical activity and explore possible solutions to overcome these for under-represented groups. Students will learn about the inter-relationship between Sport England, local and national partners to increase participation at grassroots level.
