KS4 Curriculum Guide - Year 10 Religion & Philosophy
Term 1Christian Beliefs  
This unit will explore key Christian beliefs in the following areas:The nature of God, God as omnipotent, loving and just and the problem of evil and suffering; The oneness of God and the Trinity; Father, Son and Holy Spirit; Different Christian beliefs about creation including the role of the Word and Spirit,different Christian beliefs about the afterlife and their importance. Areas to explore related to Jesus Christ and Salvation are beliefs and teaching about: the Incarnation and Jesus as the Son of God, he crucifixion, resurrection and ascension,Sin, including original sin,the means of salvation,the role of Christ in salvation.

Term 2Relationships and Families   
Students will consider issues surrounding families, marriage, divorce sexual relationships and gender equality. They will look at the nature of families including the role of parents and children, extended families and the nuclear family. The purpose of families will also be studied and within this topic; procreation, stability and the protection of children, educating children in a faith, contemporary family issues including same sex parents, polygamy, the roles of men and women, gender equality, gender prejudice and discrimination.

Term 3Muslim Beliefs  
This unit will focus on Muslim beliefs about God, the key beliefs of Sunni and Shi'a Muslims, Angels, life after death, predestination, prophethood, Muslim holy books and the Imamate.

Term 4Religion, Crime and Punishment   
Students will consider the aims of punishment including; retribution, deterrence, reformation. They will look at the treatment of criminals including prison, corporal punishment, community service, forgiveness and the death penalty. They will consider ethical arguments related to the death penalty including those based on the principle of utility and the sanctity of life.

Term 5Christian Practices  
This unit will involve an exploration into Christian practices to include: different forms of worship and their significance prayer and its significance,The role and the meaning of the sacraments,The sacrament of Eucharist (Holy Communion) and its significance for Christians including different ways in which it is celebrated and different interpretations of its meaning and the role and importance of pilgrimage and celebrations.

Term 6Christian Practices continued  
This unit will continue our exploration into Christian Practices, how they are influenced by belief, and why they are so important.
