KS4 Curriculum Guide - Year 10 French
Term 1/2Le monde du travail   
This unit will introduce students to the demands of the GCSE course. It will utilise students' prior learning at Key Stage 3 and will build upon this to enable them to communicate at GCSE level. The unit will be split into three main sections: school; work experience and future plans. Students will begin by discussing school life with a focus on expressing and justifying opinions. Topics will range from school rules to describing the campus. Students will then begin to look at the world of work; studying topics such as professions and job adverts. Finally, students will express their future plans for after GCSEs and beyond. There will be a focus on developing students uses of grammatical structures. They will learn about conjugating in the present and future tense and will be expected to practise these regularly. Students will also recap the use of reflective verbs.

Term 3Voila, c'est moi!   
This unit will recap familiar topics from KS3 at GCSE level. These will include myself, my family and friends, my home life and my local environment with a focus on developing opinions. Towards the end of this unit students with complete a mock writing controlled assessment which will be vital preparation for Year 11. Students will develop their use of comparatives and superlatives and will be expected to use these to justify their personal opinions.

Term 4Le passe-temps   
In this units, students will learn important vocabulary related to free-time and leisure activities. They will dicuss their opinions about hobbies and sports in a more sophisticated way. There will be a focus on using real life situations such as making plans and arrangements. This will be an important part of the speaking assessments in Year 11. Students will continue to develop their independence in conjugating verbs in the past, present and future tense.

Term 5/6Manger sainement   
This unit is split into 3 main sections; healthy eating, healthy living and youth issues. Students will begin by considering healthy and unhealthy food and there will be a focus on discussing advantages and disadvantages. This will then lead on to considering how to lead a healthy life and advising people on how to do this. Finally, students will study a range of themes affecting young people today. These will range from smoking to drugs to terrorism and immigration. There will be a focus in this unit of creating work at GCSE level and students will be expected to become familiar with the Edexcel mark schemes. At the end of this unit, students will complete their first formally assessed controlled writing assessment. This unit provides students with the grammatical tools to achieve well at GCSE. There will be a focus on the importance of using a range of past tenses at GCSE level. Whilst continuing to practise using the past, present and future tenses, students will learn about imperatives.
