KS3 Curriculum Guide - Year 9 Spanish
Term 1Somos asi   
Students will use a variety of phrases to give opinions, talk about their week, discuss films and birthdays as well as considering what life is like as a celebrity. They will revisit the irregular and regular verbs in the present tense, revising the near future and preterite tenses and how to use three tenses together.

Term 2Orientate   
Students will talk about what people to at work and what jobs people would like to do in the future. The expession 'tener que' will be introduced focusing on adjective agreement and practising using the near future tense and combining tenses. Students will enhance their dictionary skills and reading skills by scanning and skimming. They will give an entertaining presentation about themselves which includes three tenses.

Term 3En forma   
Students will learn to talk about health and leading an active lifestyle. They will discuss how people keep fit and typical activities throughout a day. They will also talk about pains and illnesses that they may have. Grammatical features include direct object pronouns, stem-changing verbs abd reflexive verbs as well as the constructions 'me duele(n)' and '(no) se debe'. Students will be introduced to spanish idioms through the medium of spanish poetry and will then teach a dance routing using the imperative.

Term 4Jovenes en accion   
Students will discuss causes that young people are able to support including those focused on children's rights, fair trade, recycling and charity fundraising. They will express points of view and constructions will be introduced and used including 'se deberia' and the verb 'poder'. Students will learn how to use the imperfect tense to describe what a town used to be like and then how it has changed. They will work on a written piece about raising money for a cause and read about world issues in spanish.

Term 5Una Aventura en Madrid
In the context of visiting a Spanish city students will practise meeting and greeting people, talk about a treasure hunt, discuss buying souvenirs and say what they will do whilst in the city. They will be introduced to the expressions with 'tener' and revisit the use of the comparative and the superlative. They will also be introduced to the simple future tense when describing what they will do in the city. Students will practise conversations and making themselves understood in different situations as well as reading authentic texts about the city of Madrid and developing skills that enable them to access more challenging texts.

Term 6Repaso
Students will revise all topics covered in the previous five terms whilst developing their reading, writing, speaking and listening skills. They will explore Spanish culture through the interactive acitivity 'Mi Vida Loca' on BBCLanguages.com.
