|Students will get used to Spanish pronunciation whilst learning how to introduce themselves, talking about their own personality and other people's using the verb 'tener' and 'ser' and a variety of adjectives. They will be introduced to numbers and months in order to talk about birthdays and use simple connectives and definite and indefinite articles.|
|Assessment: During the Term 1, students will be tested on the vocabulary weekly. At the end of term, students will sit a listening and a reading assessment. Both task test understanding of short extracts made up of familiar language in the context of animals and family. The assessment is in the format of multiple-choice questions.||Key Words and Terms|
|Term 2||Mi tiempo libre|| |
|Students will consider leisure activities, the weather and the expression of opinions. They will be introduced to different regular verbs in the present tense and infinitives after 'gustar'. Christmas celebrations in Spain will be a focus.|
|Assessment: Students will be assessed weekly on their vocabulary knowledge of this topic. The speaking task tests the ability to take part in a
simple conversation, asking and giving information in the context of leisure activities. Pupils should respond in sentences. At Gold (and under) the responses will be brief, but pupils operating at Grade 1 (and above) will bring in additional information and use adjectives, connectives, negatives and qualifiers successfully.||Key Words and Terms|
|Term 3||Mi insti|| |
|Students will talk about school subjects, facilities and pass times during break time. They will be introduced to plurals of definite and indefinite articles and justify opinions using connectives. Listening and prediictive skills will be developed with particular focus on context. Students will read about the right to education in under-developed countries.|
|Assessment: Students will be assessed weekly on vocabulary given weekly by their class teacher. This will include a mix of Spanish to English, and English to Spanish. The end of term assessment will consist of a reading and listening assessment. These tasks test the understanding of a short extracts made up of familiar language in the
context of opinions about school subjects/free time in school.

|Term 4||Mi familia y mis amigos|| |
|Students will talk about family members, friends and their houses, how to describe their own appearance and the appearance of others. They will use possessive adjectives and will deliver a presentation about where people live using descriptive language, expressing and justifying opinions.|
|Assessment: Students will be assessed weekly on the vocabulary for this module. The test will consist of a mixture of Spanish to English, and English to Spanish. The speaking task tests the ability to take part in a simple conversation, asking and giving information in the context of leisure activities. Pupils should respond in sentences. |Term 5||Mi cuidad|| |
|Students will describe places in town, tell the time and arrange to go out. The near future tense will be introduced to make plans for the weekend and beyond. Students will work on longer translations from Spanish to English and vice versa.|
|Assessment: Along with weekly vocabulary tests, students will be tested on their Listening and Reading skills. Through short passages with familiar, and some unfamiliar, vocabulary, students will have to read, and listen for context in answering a series of multiple choice questions.||Key Words and Terms|
|Term 6||Repaso Mi vida loca|| |
|Students will revise all topics covered in the previous five terms, developing their reading, writing, speaking and listening skills as they do so. They will explore Spanish culture through an interactive activity 'Mi Vida Loca' on BBCLanguages.com.|
|Assessment: Students will have their end of year assessment and will be tested on: Listening, Reading, and Writing.
Reading and Listening: Students will have a series of short comprehension passages across both passive skills. Students will have to answer multiple choice questions, and will also respond to questions in English.
Writing: Students will have a choice of two GCSE style writing questions. Students will be provided a picture prompt and will have to compose a 60-80 word response. ||Key Words and Terms|
