Music Overview

Term 1: Revision of Year One Topics and Popular Music and Jazz

Students will listen widely to popular and jazz music from the second half of the 20th and 21st centuries. They will revise, refine, complete and record their free composition. Preparatory work towards brief assessing technique will be continued.

Preparation for the performance element is ongoing.

Term 2: Fusions Debussy 'Estampes: Nos. 1 and 2' Anoushka Shankar 'Breathing Under Water' selected tracks Familia Valera 'Cana Quema' selected songs

Students will explore the set pieces using knowledge and understanding of musical elements, contexts and language to make critical judgements about the music. They will compare and evaluate and commit to wider listening which builds on the GCSE study of 'fusions' among music of different styles.

Students will explore the set pieces using knowledge and understanding of musical elements, contexts and language to make critical judgements about the pieces. They will compare and evaluate the pieces and commit to wider listening in Western music that has attempted new and innovative ideas, or carried such ideas to new extremes or new audiences.
